Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) has announced that Vincent J. Cardinal, Connecticut Repertory Theatre Artistic Director and Head of the Department of Dramatic Arts at the University of Connecticut will step down from his position at the end of July. Cardinal, who is departing at the conclusion of the popular 2016 Nutmeg Summer Series, will become the Arthur and Martha Hearron Endowed Professor of Musical Theatre, Chair of the Department of Musical Theatre and Professor of Music, School of Music Theatre and Dance at the University of Michigan.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center celebrated the 16th annual MonteCristo Award ceremony with a presentation of the honor to award-winning stage and film director, playwright, and actor George C. Wolfe on Monday night at the Edison Ballroom. The O'Neill annually bestows its Monte Cristo Award on a prominent theater artist whose lifetime work has had an extraordinary impact on American theater. The gala event supports the Center's commitment to developing new work and new artists for the stage. 

This year, Walnut Street Theatre's annual Gala will take place on Friday, May 6. The evening will begin with a one-night-only concert titled Come Hear the Music Play: An Evening of Kander & Ebb. Some of Philadelphia's favorite performers will take the stage to 'Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle.' Guests will enjoy performances by: Charles Abbott, Sara Brophy, Jennie Eisenhower, Cameron Flurry, Laura Giknis, Lexi Gwynn, Joliet F. Harris, Billy D. Hart, Heidi Hayes, Melissa Joy Hart, Jesse Jones, Liam Keenan, John Charles Kelly, Cambria Klein, Ben Lipitz, Forrest McClendon, Ellie Mooney, Craig Mulhern Jr., Nichalas L. Parker, Owen Pelesh, Lyn Philistine, Fran Prisco, Jenny Lee Stern, Christopher Sutton, Tara Tagliaferro, Denise Whelan and Jacob Wilner. Following the Gala Concert, a sold-out, swanky speakeasy VIP Party will be held on the Thomas Jefferson University Campus in the Jefferson Alumni Hall Atrium.

DOT by Colman Domingo - currently starring as Strand on AMC's FEAR THE WALKING DEAD and also in The Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winner THE BIRTH OF A NATION by Nate Parker - just opened at the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15th St.). The play is directed by multiple Tony Award winner Susan Stroman, who returns to The Vineyard for the first time since she directed the theater's acclaimed world premiere of THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS. I am always excited by the opportunity to see an August Wilson play. Only Actors Theatre has managed to deliver them to Louisville audiences, the most recent having been an outstanding production of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom in 2010. Now we have Seven Guitars to feast upon.

Sundance Institute today announced the acting company and creative advisors that are participating in its 2015 Theatre Lab, which kicked off yesterday and runs through July 26 at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Under the supervision of Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Lab is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community and is one of 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content.
