Rhode Island International Film Festival To Screen 235 Films During 13TH Annual RIFF EVENT

With films and filmmakers arriving from across the globe, the Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) kicks off its 13th annual event August 4th-9th, 2009. This year 235 feature length, documentary and short films - from 57 countries - will be screened over a six-day period In locations throughout the state, all vying for top awards. Out of over 7,000 film festivals worldwide, RIIFF is one of only 63 Academy Award qualifying Festivals. This year's films have been selected from a record entry base of over 3,000 submissions.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the B-movie musical ode to horror films, inspired a cult following replete with costume-garbed, ravenous fans shouting out lines and dancing in the aisles. Therefore it's only natural that The Poseidon Adventure, a 1970's disaster flick about stranded passengers on a capsized luxury liner, would inspire a similar cult-like frenzy, right?

Due to the on-going Hollywood writers' strike, The 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards NBC telecast and champagne dinner in The Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom is officially cancelled. Instead, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association today announced that the recipients of Golden Globe Awards in 25 categories will be revealed during an hour-long HFPA press conference at The Beverly Hilton to be covered live by NBC News beginning at 6PM PST on Sunday, January 13.
