The Nash Series Presents EXPLORING MASTERS OF JAZZ Tonight

April is Jazz Appreciation month and in recognition, the Nash announces a new series of classes for the public to learn about the history of jazz by examining the great masters. This four-part series will be led by ASU jazz instructor, Dr. Jeffry Libman, who will present four weekly Wednesday morning sessions in April each focusing on a different jazz instrument and its master musicians and vocalists. Dr. Libman will lead the discussions with histories and recordings from the great masters such as John Coltrane, Dizzie Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Billie Holiday.

The 11th Annual Next Generation Jazz Festival Presented by Monterey Jazz Festival takes place March 27-29, 2015, at the Monterey Conference Center. The weekend-long event includes Big Bands, Combos, Vocal Ensembles, and individual musicians vying for a spot on the stages of the 58th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Grammy and Oscar award-winning vocalist Patti Austin returns to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for a performance devoted to the brilliance of Washington, DC native Duke Ellington and 'The First Lady of Song,' Ella Fitzgerald, tonight, February 19 at 8 p.m. at The Music Center at Strathmore, and Friday, February 20 at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, February 22 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Led by Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly, Ms. Austin joins the Orchestra for such legendary jazz classics as 'Cottontail,' 'I Got It Bad,' 'It Don't Mean a Thing' and more.

In its continuing mission to bring culture to people who wouldn't necessarily have access, to illuminate, educate, and entertain, public television stations WNET (New York) and WLIW (Long Island) decided the time was ripe to reacquaint people with the art of cabaret. In February, viewers in the New York metro area were able to view new one-hour cabaret shows featuring singers KT Sullivan and Jennifer Sheehan.

Vocalist Kathy Kosins is an ASCAP award winning songwriter and record producer who has won the hearts of critics and fans around the globe with her eclectic musical palette that expands the rich history of jazz. In a multimedia concert salute The Ladies of Cool Kathy brings to life the extraordinary artistry of the great singers of 40s and 50s 'cool,' Anita O'Day, June Christy, Chris Connor and Julie London to the Harris Center for the Arts audiences. This concert includes presentation of vintage and rarely seen photographs and historical facts about each of these ladies, plus stories of the songs themselves, with photographs of the songwriters who created them.
