San Francisco Symphony Announce 2017-2018 Season

Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas (MTT) and the San Francisco Symphony (SFS) today announced plans for the 2017-18 season, comprising more than 200 concerts in eleven months presented at Davies Symphony Hall. The Orchestra's 106th season is highlighted by musical touchstones that are trademarks of MTT's artistic vision for the Orchestra.

Music Director Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the World Premiere of HK Gruber's Piano Concerto - a Philharmonic co-commission with the Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestras - with pianist Emanuel Ax as soloist; Weill's Little Threepenny Music for Wind Orchestra; and Schubert's Symphony No. 2. The performances will take place Today, January 5, 2017, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 6 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 7 at 8:00 p.m.

The New York Philharmonic will present Beloved Friend - Tchaikovsky and His World: A Philharmonic Festival, January 24-February 11, 2017, featuring Russian-born Semyon Bychkov conducting works by Tchaikovsky as well as composers he was influenced by and whom he influenced, with piano soloists Yefim Bronfman and Kirill Gerstein.

Hennepin Theatre Trust announced today that ZAKIR HUSSAIN, one of the world's greatest percussionists, the wizardly Indian tabla player and composer, returns to Minneapolis to perform at the historic Pantages Theatre (710 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 8 p.m. Zakir will be joined on stage by Indian classical, fusion and experimental performer RAHUL SHARMA. Sharma has written music for several Bollywood films. In 2002, he was one of the youngest music directors for whom the nightingale of Inida Lata mangeshkar sang all the songs for Yash chopra's 'Mujhase Dosti karoge' starring Hritik Roshan-Kareena Kapoor.

Through a generous gift by German philanthropist Dorothee Hennings-Holtmann, the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Brandenburg State Theater Orchestra, Cottbus are pleased to announce the American German Cultural Exchange Fellowship (AGCEF).
