Cameron Mackintosh Says MISS SAIGON is Next Musical to Hit Big Screen

On Christmas Day, the highly anticipated film version of Les Miserables hits the big screen, and according to producer Cameron Mackintosh, there might be another Boublil & Schonberg musical coming soon after. According to Ohnotheydidint, Mackintosh recently revealed: "If Les Mis is a success then Miss Saigon will be made into a film. It isn't confirmed at this point but there are many people sniffing around and offers coming in."

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles (SCLA) presents its 22(nd) annual Simply Shakespeare reading of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' September 27 at the Freud Playhouse, UCLA Campus. This event features a star-studded tie-dyed cast of hilarious hippies for an evening filled with peace, love reading a psychedelic 1960's adaptation of Shakespeare's play that includes iconic music of the era. Directed by SCLA's Artistic Director Ben Donenberg, the groovy participants include Billy Crystal, William Shatner, Martin Short, Topher Grace, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Redmayne, Cedric the Entertainer, Paul Dooley, Olivia Thirlby, Alan Tudyk and co-chairs Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks and more!

Tom Hooper's upcoming big-screen adaptation of 'Les Miserables,' starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and a slew of other big-name stars, was previously set for a theatrical release on December 14. Now according to Variety, after 'The Great Gatsby' and 'Life of Pi' were pushed back, the release of 'Les Miserables' has been postponed until Christams Day- December 25. Universal plans to use the new gap to 'take advantage of holiday crowds.'

For Fall Movie Preview week, MTV News interviewed Les Miserables film director Tom Hooper about his upcoming big-screen adaptation of the musical, starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Anne Hathaway as Fantine and a slew of other big-name stars. In the interview, Hooper described Hathaway's performance of 'I Dreamed A Dream' as 'quite breathtaking.' Broadway veteran and GLEE star Jonathan Groff stars opposite original cast member Alfred Molina in the Los Angeles premiere of RED at the Mark Taper Forum. Groff plays Ken (orignally played by Tony winner Eddie Redmayne) in the play, alongside Molina who reprises his Tony-nominated role as Mark Rothko. The production is currently running through September 9. Michael Grandage directs. For the first time in its five year history in Asbury Park, ReVision Theatre will be producing a drama, Red. This gripping play by John Logan about the abstract expressionist artist Mark Rothko was originally produced in London in December 2009 and transferred to Broadway in 2010.
