An all-new THEATER TALK features John Douglas Thompson and Terry Teachout, the cast and writer, respectively, of the new off-Broadway play, Satchmo at The Waldorf, now at the Westside Theatre Upstairs. A dramatization of the last years of jazz legend Louis Armstrong (1901-1971), the play was written after Teachout immersed himself in his subject for his 2009 biography, Pops: A Life of Louis Armstrong.

This year has already witnessed a number of Beatles-related events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Beatlemania hitting in the US, when the Fab Four stepped off a plane at JFK airport to throngs of screaming, hysterical fans, gave an epic live performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, and proceeded to take the country by storm. Currently the New York Public Library is hosting “Ladies and Gentleman…The Beatles!” (through May 10), an expansive show including concert footage, recordings, photographs, lyric sheets, and other memorabilia that explore the band's enduring impact on American music and culture.

Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman makes his first-ever appearance on the stage of Chicago's Civic Opera House on Sunday, April 6 at 2 pm. He will be accompanied by pianist and frequent collaborator Rohan De Silva in a program of Beethoven, Richard Strauss, and Debussy, with additional works to be announced from the stage. Video screens will provide up-close viewing for every seat in the opera house.
