Vassar & New York Stage and Film is pleased to announce the casts for the free Readings Festival 1 (June 25 - 27), which opens the 26th annual Powerhouse Theater season on the Vassar campus.

On June 14, 2010, four of today's best and brightest young Broadway performers will share the stage with students who represent the next generation of artists, in recognition of the 40th Anniversary of Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, a division of Boys & Girls Harbor and the only multi-disciplinary performing arts school serving East Harlem.

Powerhouse Theater, a unique collaboration between Vassar College and New York Stage and Film, will enter its second quarter-century this summer, continuing its mission to offer a haven for world-class artists to gather and explore new material in an atmosphere that is both protected and challenging.

Dusk Rings a Bell, written by Stephen Belber will be performed at Atlantic Stage 2 as Atlantic Theater Company's final production of the season. The play will be directed by Sam Gold and will run May 19-June 20. Performances take place Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 PM.

TPAC is located in the James K. Polk Cultural Center at 505 Deaderick Street in downtown Nashville, occupying an entire city block between 5th and 6th Avenues and Deaderick and Union Streets. This show does things that your traditional musical does not do. That is where I begin to be perplexed. SPRING AWAKENING has what we might term traditional Broadway songs, including ballads and tuneful melodies. This is where Duncan Sheik on music and Steven Sater on lyrics certainly let us down. It also has some of the most exciting, and fetching rock songs or ‘indie rock' ever presented on a Broadway stage. This is where Sheik and Sater make SPRING AWAKENING a rock concert with theatrical surroundings. Or, perhaps they made a theatrical show and infused it with a rock concert sensibility.
