THE WINTER YARD is indeed back for the 2016-2017 season, courtesy of funding from Boston's Barr Foundation and the Massachusetts Cultural Council/Local Cultural Council (MV).  And there's no better way to kick off a season of sugar, spice, and gender-fluid mistletoe, renegade skaters, proto-punk Inuk throat-singers and the island's home-grown dance stars, than with a delirious celebration of holiday spirit and tradition. The Bessies Announce Recipients of the 2016 NY Dance and Performance Awards

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of the 2015-16 season award recipients tonight at the 32nd Annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Awards were presented in the categories of Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition/Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design, with additional awards presented for Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance. Commissioned and produced by DANCE NOW, National Intimacy Month is a collaboration between performance duo Chelsea and Magda, choreographer/dancers Bryan Strimpel and Shaina Branfman of B.S. Movement, and choreographer Raja Feather Kelly and his troupe, the feath3r theory. Combining choreography, improvisation, text, live podcasting, and sketch comedy, the work explores the role of intimacy in the creative process and in performance. The cute and the aggressive, the familiar and unknown, the popular and the underrated-all come into play in dynamic, surprising, and humorous ways, complete with commercial breaks and apple pie.

Carolyn Dorfman Dance, whose bold and dramatic works connect life and movement, celebrates dance across New York and New Jersey with multiple appearances all summer long. The company kicks off their summer performances, June 21, with the multi-company dance festival KoDaFe. They can also be seen at the 10th Annual Wave Rising Series, June 25-26, as well as SummerStage engagements at Rumsey Playfield with Complexions Contemporary Ballet, July 27, and East River Park, August 13. Dorfman's troupe of ten dancers will conclude their summer season with an appearance at the Dance on the Lawn Festival at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Montclair, New Jersey, September 10.

?This July, The New Victory Theater will present its third season of Victory Dance, the theater's initiative to provide FREE dance performances to kids in New York City day camps, school and youth programs over the summer. A three-week-long series presented from July 13 - 29, 2016, Victory Dance features a cross-section of highly accomplished and internationally recognized New York companies who perform a range of movement styles from lyrical, to tap, to anime-inspired dance, and share in the theater's goal of inspiring young people to embrace the art form.
