Shakespeare by the Sea Announces Thrilling 20th Anniversary Season

Shakespeare by the Sea announces productions, cast and creatives for its 20th Anniversary Season. Based at the gorgeous Pt. Fermin Park in San Pedro, and touring to twenty-three parks throughout Southern California, Shakespeare by the Sea is celebrating 20 years of fulfilling its mission to create theatrical experiences for audiences in culturally diverse communities to make theatre accessible to all. For this milestone anniversary, SBTS has selected two of Shakespeare's most popular and beloved plays, Macbeth and The Taming of the Shrew.

Plays & Players presents the second installment of its series dedicated to introducing young audiences to the power of live theater. This season's P.L.A.Y. (Philadelphia Local Artists for Youth) show is a world premiere entitled Dream House: A Rainy Day Play, written by Jeremy Gable, directed by Jack Tamburri and performed by Jennifer MacMillan. Performances run tonight, November 6-23.

As football season kicks into full swing, former Pro Bowl Philadelphia Eagle Mike Boryla returns to Plays & Players, to remount his hit January World Premiere, The Disappearing Quarterback, recalling the glory of his playing days and the complex aftermath of concussions for himself and his teammates. A play for football fanatics and novices alike, the one man show runs nearly 75 minutes with performances September 20-27 at Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Place.

Plays & Players continues its collaboration with Power Street Theater Company with follow-up readings of El Nogalar by Tanya Saracho, Dark Matters by Oliver Mayer and To Catch the Lightning by Carmen Rivera. These three plays, representing 30/30/2, 30/30/3 and 30/30/4, were selected from a group of finalists chosen during the 30/30/1 full day event held with local theater and Latino community leaders in March, as part of a nation-wide event. The readings hope to serve as a further contribution to the already-growing conversation about the Latina/o voice and identity in the Philadelphia theater community.

Plays & Players will launch a new yearly series dedicated to introducing young audiences to the power of live theater. This season, P.L.A.Y. (Philadelphia Local Artists for Youth) premieres with Delaware Mudtub and the Mighty Wampum, a work that explores mythic animals local to the area -- the great blue heron, the red fox, and the box turtle, as well as the stories of the people once indigenous to the Delaware River -- the Lenni-Lenape.
