The Actors Fund will honor dancer, choreographer and television dance competition judge Carrie Ann Inaba, Academy and Tony Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, and New York City Ballet principal dancer Robert Fairchild at The Actors Fund's Career Transition For Dancers Jubilee Gala tonight, November 1, 2017, at 6 pm at the New York Marriott Marquis (1535 Broadway). The gala will benefit The Actors Fund's services for the dance community.

The core of Armitage's work centers on a series of dance 'dreamscapes' that take the viewer on a poetic journey to evoke mysterious landscapes of reverie, dream and altered consciousness. Her latest work, Halloween Unleashed: Dancing Bones, Tasting Darkness and the Skeleton Within, is a subversive comedy designed to spook adults and families in a live action rendition of Disney's 1929 animated masterpiece, The Skeleton Dance. Combined with images from the wild, capricious street theater of Haitian carnival, Halloween Unleashed offers punk attitude and visual high-jinx, in a dance where bones dance alone, shoes fly off feet, and skeletons turn into musical instruments.

The 2015 musical, inspired by the Oscar-winning film of the same title, features a score by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Craig Lucas opened at the Memphis Orpheum this week. Because the story centers on Ballet, which I'm not qualified to critique, I brought along Dmitri Roudnev, former Bolshoi soloist and current Ballet Master.
