Right now at the NYU Skirball Center, a new Cirque-style acrobatics show is waiting to make your holiday week special. The choreographer of the 2006 Olympic Games closing ceremonies has joined forces with Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity choreographer to create a new circus spectacle 'that lives between dream and reality, underscored by a continuous stream of original music, and brought to vivid life by 3-D projections'. CIRKOPOLIS, the new show by Montreal-based Circus Arts company Cirque Eloize, is a mind-blowing spectacle for kids of all ages. I was lucky enough to bring my ten and five year olds, and both had a memorable theatrical experience not easily replicated!

The Global Citizenship Service at Cirque du Soleil will reveal their 9th annual art exhibition, PARADE: The Collective, on Friday, Jan. 3. Artists will be available during the collection's preview on Thursday, Jan. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will run Jan. 2 - 30 at the Trifecta Gallery inside the Arts Factory in downtown Las Vegas and is free and open to the public.

It was an exciting, interesting and surprising season in the Philadelphia/ South Jersey theater world. Here are some of my favorites picks with one additional New York entry worth remembering.

This past Wednesday, December 18, LIGHT Nightclub at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas presented their #LiveForTheLight holiday party and hosted a special night of musical performances by hip-hop superstar J. Cole, rockers Panic! at the Disco, New Politics and KREWELLA.

Cirque du Soleil return to the Royal Albert Hall with their award-winning production Quidam on 4 January 2014. Having previously announced an extension to the run, Quidam's limited engagement in London is now booking to 16 February 2014.

My mother took me to the ballet when I was young. I came home with a souvenir bouquet and would not stop listening or dancing to the score, imagining a giant Christmas tree and those nasty rats scurrying across my living room floor. I like to imagine the magic of theatre and the arts creating that same wonder for people all over the world.

As the New Year commences, Hakkasan Las Vegas at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino reveals its awaited January DJ roster featuring world-renowned artists night-after-night. On Saturday, January 11, 2014 the National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts) will host the organization's first Backyard Ball Performance and Gala to be held at the YoungArts Campus (2100 Biscayne Boulevard). The 2014 Arison Award Honorees are Pritzker Award Winning architect Zaha Hadid and Academy Award Winning singer, dancer, and actress, Rita Moreno. This year's Alumni Honoree is actor, singer and 1997 YoungArts Winner in Theater, Andrew Rannells. The celebratory evening of artistic immersion will bring together prominent artists, community leaders, philanthropists and celebrities to recognize the 2014 YoungArts Winners. The gala is YoungArts' largest annual fundraiser and the culmination of YoungArts' signature program YoungArts Week which provides 171 of the nation's most outstanding young artists in the literary, performing, visual and design arts with life-changing experiences, including master classes, workshops, inter-disciplinary activities, performances and exhibitions.

NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts presents the New York City premiere of CIRKOPOLIS, the critically acclaimed show by Montreal-based troupe Cirque Eloize for a strictly limited engagement opening last night, December, 19th, 2013 and concluding on Sunday, January 5th, 2014 at NYU Skirball Center (566 LaGuardia Place, New York, New York, 10012). Renowned director Neil Goldberg re-imagines the holiday season with sparkle and suspense one can only dream of in a holidaze. An international cast of 30 multi-talented and brilliantly costumed artists come to life and perform astonishing feats of disbelief. Experience gingerbread men flipping mid air, toy soldiers marching on thin wires, snowmen daringly balancing, icemen powerfully sculpting, penguins spinning, puppets dancing, and reindeer soaring high above a landscape of holiday wonderment. An original music score and some seasonal favorites accompany 300 hundred spectacular costumes and holiday dreams in a setting of gigantic gifts, colossal candy canes and 30-foot towering soldiers. The Las Vegas Philharmonic will perform 10 free concerts for the largest number of schoolchildren in its 15 year history in January by expanding its annual Youth Concert Series to five days Monday, January 13th through Friday, January 17th. Over the week close to 15,000 fourth and fifth grade students from 122 schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley will attend a Las Vegas Philharmonic concert held in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. (Note: these concerts are not open to the general public.)

Shaping Sound, a contemporary dance experience announces their 2014-2015 world tour and returns to the stage with a preview performance as part of The Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Roseland Ballroom (239 West 52nd Street, between Broadway and 8th Avenue) in New York at 12pm, 4pm and 8:30pm.
