Nominees for the 2013 LA STAGE Alliance Ovation Awards were announced on the evening of Monday, September 16 at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Los Angeles, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs Community Service Division. The nominations were revealed by past Ovation Award recipients Susanne Blakeslee, Shirley Jo Finney, Ryan Johnson, Michael Matthews, Gregory Nabours, Janet Roston, and John Sloan, along with LA STAGE Alliance Chief Executive Officer Terence McFarland.

Columbus Children's Theatre will present Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. August 7-18, 2013 at the Park Street Theatre located at 512 N Park Street. The 2013 Youth Performance Company is comprised of students 10 - 15 years of age. This production is directed by Ryan Scarlata. Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, Book by Doug Wright, based on the Hans Christian Anderson Story and the Disney Film, Music adapted and Arranged by David Weinstein. Lincoln Center Theater has announced four productions to be produced in the Vivian Beaumont and Mitzi E. Newhouse Theaters during the 2013-2014 season: the world premiere ofDomesticated, a new play by Bruce Norris, featuring Laurie Metcalf, directed by Anna D. Shapiro beginning performances Thursday, October 10 in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater; a new production of Shakespeare's Macbeth, featuring Ethan Hawke in the title role, directed by Jack O'Brien, beginning performances Thursday, October 24 in the Vivian Beaumont Theater; Act One, adapted and directed by James Lapine from the autobiography by Moss Hart, beginning performances Thursday, March 20 in the Beaumont; and the world premiere of The City of Conversation, a new play by Anthony Giardina, directed by Doug Hughes, beginning performances Thursday, April 10 in the Newhouse. In addition to these four productions, LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater's initiative to produce the work of new artists and to engage new audiences, will produce a season of three plays, to be announced, in the Claire Tow Theater.

As previously announced, John O'Hurley will star as King Arthur. Also starring will be Michelle Ragusa as The Lady of the Lake, Kevin Cahoon as Historian, John Scherer as Sir Robin, David Hibbard as Patsy, Chris Hoch as Sir Lancelot, Ben Davis as Sir Dennis Galahad, and Tally Sessions as Dennis' Mother/Sir Bedevere. Joining them will be broadcast legend Bob Costas as The Voice of God.

Iconic entertainer and humanitarian Danny Kaye was honored as his namesake sandwich joined the menu of the famed NYC staple in his Centennial year. On Monday, April 29th, Dena Kaye, Danny's only daughter with his wife and collaborator Sylvia Fine Kaye, joined the staff of the Carnegie Deli for a sandwich cutting ceremony, officially inducting the Danny Kaye Deli Club sandwich onto the menu for all to enjoy. Anyone expecting vocal fireworks from soprano Nina Stemme's appearance last night at Alice Tully Hall with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, under Thomas Dausgaard, was woefully disappointed. Count me as one of them.

Frog and Peach Theatre Company Presents CINDERELLA, 4/27-5/19

For audiences age four and up, Frog and Peach Theatre Company, 'a brave company that is a jewel of Off-Broadway' (Ronald Gross, NY Theatre Buying Guide), will present a fairy tale series, 'Tinkerbell Theatre,' adapting 'Cinderella' (from the Brothers Grimm) and 'The Tinderbox' (from Hans Christian Anderson) into Rocky-and-Bullwinkle style plays featuring sing-along songs and big, soft puppets. The plays, written and directed by Lynnea Benson, will be followed by puppet-making workshops to which all kids attending will be invited. The two plays will be presented in repertory April 27 to May 19 at West End Theater, 263 West 86th Street.

Matthew Dunster will direct Rodney Ackland's Before The Party at the Almeida from tonight, 21 March - 11 May 2013, with press night on 28 March. Based on a short story by Somerset Maugham, Before The Party has designs by Anna Fleischle with lighting by Philip Gladwell and sound by Ian Dickinson. Casting will be announced shortly.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland Triumphs at National Junior Theater Festival

The Children's Playhouse of Maryland, in residence at CCBC Essex, garnered two major awards at this year's invitational Junior Theater Festival. CPM's production of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. captured the prestigious Freddy Gershon Award for Excellence in Music. Jamie Watson of Baltimore, (pictured left) as the Sea Witch Ursula, won the coveted Outstanding Female Performer award. Brad Bowers of Towson and Jamie Watson were named Festival Performing All Stars and Nick Logue of Essex and Tony Steiner of Baltimore were named Festival Technical Theatre All Stars.
