McCarter Theatre Receives Gift from Charles Evans Foundation

The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that it has acquired from Icon Entertainment International (IEI) U.S. McCarter Theatre Center is grateful to be among the many organizations to benefit from the generosity of the Charles Evans Foundation. The Foundation recently presented the Theatre with a significant contribution to endow a new Charles Evans Fellowship as part of McCarter's nationally renowned theater internship program. The gift will help support McCarter's longstanding commitment to training and nurturing the next generation of theater leaders.
New York Historical Society Announces November Exhibitions

BREAKTHROUGH: THE DRAMATIC STORY OF THE DISCOVERY OF INSULIN. Now - January 31, 2011. An exhibition recalling the desperate fight for life that used to be waged by juvenile diabetes patients, and commemorating the events of 1921 that inaugurated a new era of hope for them and their families. Exploring the roles of science, government, higher education and industry in developing and distributing a life-saving drug, the exhibition will bring to life the personalities who discovered insulin and raced to bring it to the world, and will tell the story of one extraordinary New York girl-Elizabeth Evans Hughes--who was among the very first patients to be saved. The exhibit will feature digital interactives, film, artifacts, and ephemera drawn form the Historical Society's own collections and from the University of Toronto, Eli Lilly and Company, the Rockefeller Institute, the Joslin Clinic, and New York Academy of Medicine.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) is proud to announce that the 28th Annual Princess Grace Awards Gala will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The Awards ceremony will include the presentation of 21 awards to emerging artists in theater, dance and film as well as the Prince Rainier III Award to be presented to Denzel and Pauletta Washington and the Princess Grace Statue Award to be presented to Anna D. Shapiro. The Award recipients hail from cities and states across America and will travel to New York City to receive their honor at the glamorous black tie ceremony. The 28th Annual Princess Grace Awards Gala will take place in the presence of Her Royal Highness Caroline Princess of Hanover. The evening will be co-chaired by Bonnie Pfeifer Evans. Presenting Sponsor for the Gala is Hermes; Platinum Sponsors are The Charles Evans Foundation and Noelle and Dick Wolf; and Crown Sponsor is Lily Safra.

The weather's not the only thing that's been heating up the Altarena Playhouse lately. Final rehearsals for our production of Tennessee Williams' white-hot drama A Streetcar Named Desire are underway, and it looks like there will be more than a few sparks onstage when the show opens next Friday, May 8th and runs until June 7th. Tickets for this Sue Trigg-directed show cast $20 (general admission), and $17 (students under 18 and seniors 62+).
