Academy To Pay Tribute To Mel Brooks 7/24

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a tribute to comic legend Mel Brooks on Friday, July 24, at 8 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Hosted by film historian Leonard Maltin, the evening will feature Brooks in person, along with numerous film clips and stories from his artistic collaborators and friends. Special guests will include Richard Benjamin, Teri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Carl Reiner, Tracey Ullman and Lesley Ann Warren (schedules permitting).
Broadway Producer Morton Gottlieb Dead at 88

The New York Times reports that Morton Gottlieb, a Broadway producer who guided to the stage four plays that were nominated for Best-Play Tony Awards, died Thursday in Englewood, N.J. He was 88 years old.

A new musical comedy revue, 'DON'T LEAVE IT ALL TO YOUR CHILDREN!', written and directed by SAUL ILSON and starring BARBARA MINKUS ('Picon Pie'), MARCIA RODD ('The Last of the Red Hot Lovers'), STEVE ROSSI (of Allen & Rossi) and RONNIE SCHELL (Gomer Pyle), will make its New York debut on Wednesday, May 6th at off-Broadway's Actors Temple Theatre, 339 West 47th Street, NYC. Musical numbers will be staged by Rudy Tronto.

Bill Cosby Awarded The Mark Twain Prize For American Humor 10/26

Bill Cosby has been awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. The Kennedy Center will present the comedian with this award on October 26th at the Center's concert hall. Along with the accompanying festivities, the award ceremony will be filmed for later broadcast on PBS.

The YORK THEATRE COMPANY (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) is presenting the return engagement of its acclaimed production of ENTER LAUGHING: THE MUSICAL. Performances began January 21st, with an official opening night that was celebrated on January 29th. The return engagement was scheduled to run until March 8th only, but today's New York Times reports that the show has extended through March 20.
