MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET - the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical and West End hit today reveals casting for the red-hot rock 'n' roll extravaganza which appears at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall as part of Southbank Centre's Winter Festival supported by NatWest. Million Dollar Quartet plays a limited season starring Martin Kemp from Saturday 17th December 2016 - Monday 2nd January 2017.

Southbank Centre presents its autumn and winter 2016 programme for performance, dance, theatre and comedy, celebrating an array of compelling work from across Southbank Centre's festivals including: a live reading of a specially commissioned adaptation of HG Wells' classic, The Time Machine performed by a cast of three including Christopher Eccleston; the world premiere of new immersive performance installation Seen and Not Heard by award-winning theatre company Complicite; a night of comedy with renowned comedian, novelist and actress Jenny Eclair; the Tony Award-winning and West End hit musical Million Dollar Quartet, starring Martin Kemp as father of rock 'n' roll Sam Phillips; and a new version of hit show BIANCO by the UK's leading contemporary circus company NoFit State who bring their unique Big Top to Southbank Centre for the first time.

The latest production entertaining audiences at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, New York is the highly entertaining Tony-nominated musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET. Featuring the familiar and classic tunes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, the rock n' roll musical provides loads of entertainment with a 'whole lotta shakin' going on.

On December 4, 1956, an extraordinary twist of fate brought music icons Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever.

The Tony nominated, rock n' roll megahit, Million Dollar Quartet, opens tonight, September 15, at The Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival. The show runs until October 1 at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse as part of the Festival's 2016 season. Carl Perkins, 'the king of rockabilly.' Jerry Lee Lewis, 'rock and roll's first great wild man.' Johnny Cash, 'one of the best-selling musicians of all time.' Elvis Presley, simply 'the king.' In 1956, these four men were in their 20s and at the early stages of their influential and prolific careers. They came together for one night at Sun Records in Memphis for a jam session, which was recorded and released as the 'Million Dollar Quartet.' So of course, this story had to be made into a musical. Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux did just that; the musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET opened on Broadway in 2010. It only ran for a year, but found success on tour and regionally, as such crowd-pleasing jukebox musicals do. Despite a fairly thin book, it's a great show, precisely because we all know and love these songs and these singers. Even if we weren't alive in 1956, these four artists and their music are an integral part of our musical heritage. The Old Log Theatre recently opened a long run of the show with a fantastic cast that's definitely worth the drive out to charming lake town of Excelsior in the Western Metro.
