Southbank Centre Presents Autumn & Winter 2016 Season

Southbank Centre presents its autumn and winter 2016 programme for performance, dance, theatre and comedy, celebrating an array of compelling work from across Southbank Centre's festivals including: a live reading of a specially commissioned adaptation of HG Wells' classic, The Time Machine performed by a cast of three including Christopher Eccleston; the world premiere of new immersive performance installation Seen and Not Heard by award-winning theatre company Complicité; a night of comedy with renowned comedian, novelist and actress Jenny Eclair; the Tony Award-winning and West End hit musical Million Dollar Quartet, starring Martin Kemp as father of rock 'n' roll Sam Phillips; and a new version of hit show BIANCO by the UK's leading contemporary circus company NoFit State who bring their unique Big Top to Southbank Centre for the first time.

Highlights include:

  • A specially-commissioned adaptation and live reading of HG Wells' classic, The Time Machine, directed by Cedering Fox of WordTheatre® and performed by Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who, Thor), MyAnna Buring (Doctor Who, Twilight) and Nikki Amuka-Bird (Luther, Survivors,) accompanied by music on the Royal Festival Hall organ from James McVinnie (5 October)

  • World premiere of the new immersive performance installation Seen and Not Heard, from acclaimed theatre company Complicité created and performed by young people (22 - 23 October)

  • Layla's Room, a new play by award-winning writer Sabrina Mahfouz and Theatre Centre bringing to life the voices of a thousand UK teens (22 October)

  • Contemporary dance meets spectacular sculptures in a late night special performance of Jean Abreu's A Thread (4 November)

  • Holy Smoke, a multi-faceted performance combining dance, visual art and music exploring the parallels between a shamanic journey and the experience of live performance, created by Ultimate Dancer Louise Ahl and a crew of multi-arts practitioners (4 - 5 November)

  • Renowned comedian, novelist and actress Jenny Eclair (Grumpy Old Women, Loose Women) puts the realities of middle age under the microscope on the Royal Festival Hall stage (21 November)

  • The UK's leading circus company NoFit State bring their silver spaceship Big Top to Southbank Centre for the first time for a new version of hit show BIANCO, more impressive and spectacular than ever before (23 November - 22 January 2017)

  • Using recorded footage, animation and spoken word, the award-winning show The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Family offers a warts-and-all journey through actor Ben Norris' own family history as he attempts to better know his father, part of Being A Man Festival (25 November)

  • UGotMale?, a thought-provoking and uplifting show presented by London Gay Men's Chorus exploring, celebrating and challenging masculinity, part of Being A Man Festival (27 November)

  • Duckie, a fresh and funny take on the classic tale of 'The Ugly Duckling' by international cabaret sensation Le Gateau Chocolat (16 December - 24 December)

  • Million Dollar Quartet, the Tony Award-winning and West End hit musical inspired by the infamous recording session that brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time, starring actor and musician Martin Kemp as legendary record producer Sam Phillips (17 December - 2 January 2017)

  • Poggle, a warm hearted dance theatre piece inviting young children to explore the world of friendly creature Poggle and a mystical forest (29 - 30 December)
