Lovers of the era of Busby Berkeley movie musicals are getting a double whammy of Golden Age goodness this month with a pair of musicals playing only two blocks from each other in Hollywood. I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU is already running at the mid-sized Ricardo Montalban Theatre on Vine and, very shortly, 42ND STREET will open at the much larger Hollywood Pantages. Both are inescapably linked by their subject matter.  

Parisian seven-piece electronic big band Caravan Palace is set to tour the U.S. this spring in support of their critically acclaimed third full-length album, <|°_°|>, out now on Le Plan Recordings. See below for a full list of dates.

Corky Hale presents I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU - The Life and Lyrics of Al Dubin, which opened May 13 at the Montalban Theatre, 1615 Vine St. in Hollywood. This new musical features lyrics by Al Dubin, music mostly by Harry Warren, book by Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner, and musical direction by Gerald Sternbach. New Rochelle Opera, Weschester's longest running opera company, will present its first ever staged production of Giuseppe Verdi's IL TROVATORE from June 23-26, 2016 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1345 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola will direct the local premiere, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Gregory Ortega. The production will feature the use of English supertitles to translate the Italian text.

Park City Institute presents its 13th summer season of St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concerts at Deer Valley Resort. The 10 concerts range from country stars Emmylou Harris and Trace Adkins and banjo virtuosos Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn to trumpeter Chris Botti and chart-topper Mike Posner… All concerts are slated to be held rain or shine at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater.

As opening nights go this was a big one and if this level of artistry, diversity and energy is going to be maintained, we are in for quite a weekend.

The Musical Theater Project and Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will co-produce "Curtain Up at The Cotton Club" for two performances on Saturday, January 30 (8pm) and Sunday, January 31 (2pm) at the Hanna Theatre at Playhouse Square.
