CMA Foundation Honors 2018 Music Teachers of Excellence

The CMA Foundation honored 34 music educators during the third annual CMA Music Teachers of Excellence ceremony last night, Tuesday, May 8, at Nashville's Marathon Music Works. The invite-only event, hosted by RCA Records Nashville recording artist as well as CMA and CMA Foundation board member Chris Young, celebrated teachers from districts across the state of Tennessee as well as cities Chicago, Cincinnati, Los Angeles and Seattle for their advocacy and commitment to music education. More than a dozen Country artists and celebrities attended the ceremony in addition to Nashville Mayor David Briley, Metro Nashville Public Schools Superintendent Shawn Joseph, CMA and CMA Foundation board members, industry leaders, and representatives from eight CMA Foundation beneficiary programs.
Give A Note Foundation Awards Five Music Programs for Innovation in Music Education

This spring Give A Note Foundation invited proposals for the Music Education Innovator Award that demonstrate school music programs led by creative music educators using innovative and sustainable strategies in non-traditional or traditional secondary music courses. These programs needed to show they were designed to attract students not typically enrolled in music education courses, in efforts to increase access to music education through diversity in curriculum and approach. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Tony-nominee Megan Hilty and husband Brian Gallagher welcomed a baby boy on Monday, March 13th. Son Ronan Laine Gallagher was born at 3:30 p.m. in Los Angeles. He joins 2 1/2 year-old sister Viola Philomena.

Holiday cheer is considerably tenuous this year, in much of the country, anyway. But damn if that would prevent Megan Hilty from delivering abundant joy in her four-show engagement at Joe's Pub, a run which began December 2. The concerts were intended to celebrate the release of Hilty's new Christmas album, A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, which she recorded live with her four-musician band.
Six months pregnant and glowing as bright as the Rockefeller tree herself, Hilty jovially commandeered the evening and not once acknowledged the state of the world outside, making it possible for a room full of New Yorkers to temporarily suspend their shared cynicism or desolation, and plunge into 80 minutes of glee.

Stars from Broadway's Hamilton, Wicked, Rent, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Allegiance, Godspell, Sweet Charity, A Chorus Line, and some surprise celebrity special guests united last night for the first annual all-star benefit concert BROADWAY SNIFFS OUT CANCER. The show was presented at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater to raise money to train our canine friends to save lives, as well as honoring of the loved ones we've lost to cancer.
