Illusion Theater's FRESH INK Set for July 12-29

Fresh Ink, Illusion's annual summer series focusing on new scripts, gives space for artists to develop their creative pieces and try their works-in-progress in front of audiences. For three weekends in July, emerging and established playwrights explore new ground, with a different play on stage each weekend. Now in its 25th year, Fresh Ink has presented more than 120 plays, with many going on to become full-length productions.

Last night, December 6, Award-winning actors Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City, Rabbit Hole) and John Slattery (Mad Men, Rabbit Hole) starred in a one-night only play reading of the quirky comedy, Hate Mail, to benefit Opening Act, an innovative nonprofit that provides free after-school theater programs to New York City's most under-served public high schools. So begins 'Hate Mail,' Bill Corbett's and Kira Obolensky's epistolary alternative to A. R. Gurney's 'Love Letters.' Corbett and Obolensky were 'originally inspired by two things: 1) the idea of doing a parody of 'Love Letters' (which was produced in 2009 by the Boca Raton Theatre Guild), and 2) the intriguing possibility of writing it in actual correspondence between two authors.

Along with revealing their crowd-pleasing line-up for the 20101-2011 season, the Boca Raton Theatre Guild has also announced it will now offer competitive compensation for actors, an occasional Equity contract, and will continue to employ top-notch directors such as Genie Croft. 'I see this as a major move forward in our evolution,' says BRTG Artistic Director Keith Garsson. 'We've been thinking along these lines for a while now, and the success we had with this summer's run of The Year of Magical Thinking with (Equity member and Carbonell Award winning actress) Angie Radosh just confirmed it - our audiences demand and enjoy quality. We believe this new policy will be attractive not only to our audiences, but to actors and directors as well.'
