Emmy nominee John Slattery (Mad Men, Rabbit Hole) will star opposite Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City, Rabbit Hole) in a one-night only play reading of the quirky comedy, Hate Mail, to benefit Opening Act, an innovative nonprofit that provides free after-school theater programs to New York City's most under-served public high schools. Nixon and Slattery reunite after their performances in the award-winning Broadway show, Rabbit Hole.

Directed by Broadway veteran Michael Mastro (West Side Story, Side Man), Hate Mail, by Bill Corbett and Kira Obolensky, is an epistolary romance that follows the comedic correspondence of spoiled rich kid Preston and angst-filled artist Dahlia as they sway from hate to love, and then back again.

Hate Mail marks Opening Act's fifth annual benefit play reading; previous events have featured Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie, The Sopranos) in a 10th anniversary reunion reading of Warren Leight's Side Man and Bernadette Peters (Gypsy, Annie Get Your Gun) in AR Gurney's Love Letters.

Opening Act's theater programs provide students attending New York City's most under-served public schools the opportunity to gain confidence, pride, and the knowledge that they can succeed at anything in life. Currently serving nine public high schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, Opening Act's mission is to provide a high quality theater program to any New York City school that needs one. Opening Act's one-night only benefit reading of Hate Mail will take place on Monday, December 6, 2010; performance starting at 7PM. New World Stages is located at 340 West 50th Street in Manhattan.

Tickets are $500 (limited availability, includes post-show toast with the cast, photo shoot viewing at the theater, program recognition, and 2010-2011 Rising Star Sponsorship in Opening Act's Adopt a School Program), $250 (limited availability, includes post-show toast with the cast, photo shoot viewing at the theater, program recognition), $100 (orchestra side and rear seating).
