In THE BEAUTIFUL DARK, Nancy's son, Jacob, announces he has failed out of college, and upon returning home, sleeps all day. From this deceitful calm, Nancy makes a startling discovery: Jacob didn't flunk out; he was kicked out for writing a graphic play about a killing spree on campus, carried out by a young man who sounds eerily like her son. The Barrow Group's Short Stuff 7, the seventh installation of The Barrow Group's evening of one-act plays, is around the corner. The series celebrates playwrights and actors and highlights The Barrow Group's contemporary, naturalistic aesthetic. Rising Phoenix Rep and Kid Brooklyn Productions have announced their first collaboration, The Beach Plays, a production of five newly commissioned short plays written to be performed on San Francisco's Ocean Beach. The plays will be fully produced and presented environmentally, with audiences gathering in front of the gift shop at The Cliff House at 1090 Point Lobos Ave, San Francisco, Calif., and traveling to and through the plays on foot.

Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Executive Director Patrick Willingham, and Chairman of the Board Warren Spector have announced the addition of seven new members to The Public's Board of Trustees. Candia Fisher, Anne Hathaway, Debby Landesman, Barbara Manocherian, and Audrey Wilf were appointed to the 40-person board in April for three-year terms, and Charlotte Relyea and Anne Clarke Wolff were appointed in June for three-year terms. A recent loss to the Board is the passing of long time Board member Nora Ephron who was honored for her service to the organization and the field at The Public's 2013 Gala this past June.

Due to popular demand, The Amoralists have added two additional performances of Mark Roberts' Rantoul and Die. Directed by Jay Stull, Rantoul and Die features critically-acclaimed performances by Derek Ahonen, Sarah Lemp, Matthew Pilieci and Vanessa Vache - all members of The Amoralists' 50-member ensemble.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announced on June 28 the nine musicals selected to be part of the 25th Annual Festival of New Musicals on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18 at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street).

Premiere Stages is proud to present the New Jersey Premiere of Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris from July 11th through July 29th in the Zella Fry Theatre at Kean University. Directed by Wes Grantom, this Tony Award-winning play is an exceptionally witty and deliciously dry satire that explores the reactions of Clybourne Park's 1950s all-white community when a couple unknowingly sells their house to a black family. The tables of gentrification turn when - fifty years later - the now all-black community greets the news of an impending sale to a white family with the same level of apprehension.
