It is a season of momentous anniversaries for the Metropolitan Opera Guild: the Guild began the season-long celebration of its 75th anniversary this fall; as publisher of Opera News, the Guild celebrates the magazine's own diamond anniversary in 2011; and the January issue of Opera News marks the 40th anniversary of James Levine's Metropolitan Opera debut (which was June 5, 1971, conducting Tosca). The cover feature sees Scott Rose take on the difficult task of choosing 40 highlights from Levine's 40 storied years at the Met.

New York Choral Society (NYCS) will make its' 18th annual appearance at the Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala on Sunday, November 14th in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center at 6:30pm. In an evening led by Maestro Marco Armiliato, NYCS will perform the 'Era desso il figlio mio' from Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia, featuring Angela Mead as soloist, the Act III Finale of Ponchielli's La Gioconda and 'Lied der Sylva' from Die Csárdásfürstin by Emmerich Kalman.

Anna Netrebko reprises her celebrated portrayal of Norina, the irresistible and clever romantic heroine of Don Pasquale, in a revival of Donizetti's comic opera that begins performances Friday, October 29. James Levine, in his first-ever performances of this opera, will conduct a cast that also features Matthew Polenzani as the lovelorn Ernesto, Mariusz Kwiecien as the duplicitous Dr. Malatesta, and John Del Carlo as the title character. Renowned Austrian director Otto Schenk will return to the Met to direct the first revival of his production, which The New York Times praised as 'wonderful' and 'insightful' when it premiered in 2006.

Puccini's classic love story La Bohème returns to the Metropolitan Opera on October 16 for an extended run of performances, starring some of opera's most celebrated young stars in the roles of Mimì and Rodolfo. Franco Zeffirelli's production, an audience favorite since 1981, will be conducted by Roberto Rizzi Brignoli in his Met debut.
