Currently, the world of opera is sorely lacking superstar talent. Last night, at the Staatsoper unter den Linden, three of the world's brightest classical-music talents came together in a very expensive, glittering new production of Verdi's MACBETH. Anna Netrebko, Placido Domingo and conductor Daniel Barenboim, the Staatsoper's Music Director, were the 'above the title' names in the production. Of the three, only Mr. Barenboim, now 75, truly fulfilled his role in the production.

Advance tickets go on sale today for the Richard Tucker Music Foundation's annual gala concert, one of the most highly anticipated operatic events of the season. Coming to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Sunday, October 21 at 6pm, the concert features bass-baritone Christian Van Horn, winner of the 2018 Richard Tucker Award, with a host of opera luminaries from around the world: soprano Anna Netrebko, tenors Javier Camarena and Yusif Eyvazov, and five past Tucker Award-winners: sopranos Christine Goerke, Angela Meade, and Nadine Sierra; mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe; and tenor Michael Fabiano. This starry lineup will join forces for an evening of favorite arias and ensembles under the baton of Marco Armiliato, with the support of the New York Choral Society and members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The gala concert is presented by the Richard Tucker Music Foundation.

Based loosely on the eponymous eight paintings and engravings by William Hogarth (1733-1735), Stravinsky's dramatic opera follows the decline and fall of a profligate heir who makes a devil's bargain with Nick Shadow, abandoning life in the country and his tender fiancee for the wicked temptations of London.The Rake's Progress will be performed 7:30pm, Thursday, August 2 and 2:00pm, Saturday, August 4 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The program features rarely heard works by Galina Ustvolskaya, including her Six Sonatas for Piano Solo. The first part of the concert will begin at 1:00 p.m. Hinterhauser will be joined by Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the 2018 Music Director of the Ojai Festival, for the second part of the concert at 2:30 p.m. Both parts will be performed at the Libbey Bowl.

Show One Productions Presents Yiddish Glory: The Lost Songs Of World War II

Yiddish Glory resurrects anti-fascist music that documents Nazi atrocities which were miraculously discovered in a former Soviet archive in Kiev, Ukraine. The songs were written by Holocaust victims and survivors in the Soviet Union during World War II, and will be performed live at Toronto's Koerner Hall on Tuesday, August 28 to open the 2018 Ashkenaz Festival.
