At this weekend's Television Critics Association Tour, new SMASH show runner Joshua Safran spoke about the highly-anticipated second season of the hit NBC musical drama. 'It's bigger, with more music, younger in some regards,' commented Safran, 'but I hope the people who watched it still see the same show they loved.' NBC and Columbia Records announced that the soundtrack for Bombshell, the musical within NBC's Golden Globe-nominated series television hit 'SMASH' (Tuesdays, 10-11pm ET), will be released on February 12. Bombshell is available now for pre-order.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, SMASH creator and executive producer Steven Spielberg spoke about the popular NBC musical drama. 'Here's what's great about Smash,' he asserted, ' - it's not a procedural, it's not medical, it's not cops, it's not legal eagles, it isn't a sitcom. So it does defy what is commercial and popular today.'

TVGuide reports that more original music and lyrics from the award-winning team of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman is on the way for the upcoming second season of NBC's SMASH. The site confirms that the duo has 'composed tunes for other faux Broadway shows that will compete with Bombshell for ticket sales as the Marilyn Monroe-themed production nears its premiere.'

Entertainment superstar Liza Minnelli - winner of an Oscar, two Golden Globes, a Grammy, an Emmy and multiple Tony Awards - will guest-star as herself in NBC's musical drama SMASH in the upcoming season, and will sing an original song with series star Christian Borle that was written by the show's celebrated composer and lyricists Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The It Gets Better Project, created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach will present their 2012 A Better Holiday concert. The concert will be held on December 16 from 7-10PM at XL Nightclub in partnership with The Group Entertainment, and will raise funds for the Ali Forney Center (AFC), the nation's largest organization working on behalf of runaway and homeless LGBTQ youth; the AFC had a vital drop-in center destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in late October.
