BWW Review: CALENDAR GIRLS at Santa Paula Theater Center
by Cary Ginell - Dec 13, 2016

???????Calendar Girls, a 2009 play based on a hit 2003 film, is Tim Firth and Juliette Towhidi's true-to-life comedy about six middle-aged women from a village in Yorkshire, England who raise money by posing nude for a calendar, in the process becoming a worldwide sensation. The women's goal was to honor one of their members' husbands, who had died from leukemia, by raising money to purchase a settee to be dedicated to his memory. The 2003 motion picture starred Helen Mirren and became a major success, grossing nearly $100 million and garnering Golden Globe nominations for Mirren and co-star Julie Walters. The play is being presented at the Santa Paula Theater Center through December 18.

BWW Reviews: VANYA & SONIA & MASHA & SPIKE at Santa Paula Theater Center
by Cary Ginell - Aug 2, 2015

Although I am not as familiar with the plays of Anton Chekhov as some, Christopher Durang's play, Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike, doesn't require a pop quiz of Chekhovian references in order for one to enjoy the show. This character study into the lives of three squabbling, middle-aged siblings has enough humor and poignancy in it so you don't have to have your SparkNotes handy to enjoy it. The play, produced by Leslie Nichols and directed by Fred Helsel, plays at the Santa Paula Theater Center through August 16.

Photo Flash: First Look at SU Drama's THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN
by BWW News Desk - Mar 28, 2014

Can we practice goodness and create a world to sustain it? In Brecht's comic and complex play, this question is raised by one of his most entertaining characters, Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless, cross-dressing prostitute, who is forced to disguise herself as a savvy businessman named Sui Ta so she can master the ruthlessness needed to be a 'good person' in a brutal world. The Good Woman of Setzuan will run tonight, March 28-April 13, 2014 in the Loft Theater at theSyracuse Stage/Drama Complex. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
