Lyric Opera of Chicago presents the harrowing story of a protective father, a lovestruck daughter, a predatory duke, and the terrible consequences of a curse in Verdi's Rigoletto. The new-to-Chicago production stars two world-renowned Ryan Opera Center alumni, Quinn Kelsey and Matthew Polenzani, in the opposing roles of the jester and the duke; and Italian soprano Rosa Feola (familiar to CSO audiences) in her Lyric debut as Gilda.

Die Walk re focuses on the conflict between Wotan, king of the gods, and his mortal son, Siegmund, who has unwittingly fallen in love with his own twin, Sieglinde, the wife of the brutish Hunding. This arouses the wrath of Wotan's wife, Fricka (goddess of marriage), and the compassion of Wotan's daughter, the warrior-maiden Br nnhilde. The turning point of the opera arrives when Br nnhilde disobeys her father by siding with Siegmund in the latter's fight against Hunding. Both Siegmund and Hunding are killed, and Wotan punishes Br nnhilde.

Ryan Opera Center, the professional artist development program at Lyric Opera of Chicago, is pleased to announce that soprano Emily Pogorelc, mezzo-soprano Kayleigh Decker, tenor Eric Ferring, baritones Christopher Kenney and Ricardo Jos Rivera, and bass-baritone David Weigel, have been accepted into this prestigious program for its 2018/19 Ensemble.
