LEFTOVERS: PTSD Musical Premieres At Fort Point Theater Channel
by Stephi Wild - Jan 20, 2019

LEFTOVERS, a full-length play with music, will premiere as part of Fort Point Theater Channel's Senses Performance Series, Sunday January 27th at 7pm. LEFTOVERS explores the physical and psychological impact of PTSD, conveying the pain, the losses and ultimately the gifts of transformation that stem from trauma. Rather than a chronological accurate sequence of events, the play illustrates how trauma is actually experienced: in intricate nonlinear tapestries of sounds, images and sensations. The playwright, Amy Oestreicher, wrote LEFTOVERS based on her own story of waking up from a coma after months of keeping a secret of sexual abuse from her family. Oestreicher has given three TEDx Talks on transforming trauma into creative growth through the power of theatre, and has toured the country with her own one-woman autobiographical musical, Gutless & Grateful. Her book, My Beautiful Detour, is now available for preorder.

Cabaret in Captivity, songs and sketches written in Terezin/Theresienstad, will be having its annual Holocaust Remembrance Day Performance on April 9 and 16 at Pangea. Terezin was located an hour away from Prague, and during World War II it served as both an internment camp and a way station for the concentration camps during the Holocaust. Full of satire, bitter humor, and hope, these pieces demonstrate how art became a vital survival technique for the inmates. Most of these pieces were recently recovered through the efforts of scholar Lisa Peschel, who also translated the majority of the work.

A.J. Lambert, as the granddaughter of Frank Sinatra, is not intimidated at all in singing through the entirety of IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS, a pioneering concept album released by Sinatra in 1955 exploring heartbreak (including a torturous breakup with his second wife, Ava Gardner) with all songs handpicked by the artist himself, during a time when a label would tell a singer what to record. Last month at Feinstein's/54 Below, Lambert told tales of growing up with her grandfather and paid tribute to a highly-esteemed album with an incredible story behind it, with reverence, soul, and jazzy musicality.
