The York Theatre Company will present the first reading of new works in the new program NEO Reading Series: Saint Ex, with Book & Lyrics by Sean Berry and Music by Jenny Giering. Directed by Kent Nicholson with music direction by Matt Castle, the cast will feature Alex Gemignani (Assassins) in the title role, with Haley Bond (York's Pietro D'Amore), Charlie Brady (Les Miserables), Amy Justman (Company), Carl Kimbrough (A Christmas Story, tour), Omar Lopez-Ceparo (American Idiot), Cass Morgan (Memphis) and Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family). Composer Maury Yeston (Dreamgirls) acted as mentor; John Arthur Pinkard is the producing mentor. One night only performance set for Monday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop announces its Spring Smoker, a semi-annual showcase for new songs from Workshop writers. The event will be held in the 30th Floor Media Room of BMI's New York office at 7 World Trade Center/250 Greenwich Street tonight, April 26, at 5:30PM and is open to members of the entertainment industry as well as Workshop members. Twelve exceptionally talented young singer-actors have made it through two rounds of auditions for the 2012 Lotte Lenya Competition and will compete for top prizes of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 in the finals, to be held on April 21, 2012, at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Three-time Tony Award nominee Rebecca Luker, Broadway and Encores! music director Rob Berman, and Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization President and American Theater Wing Chairman of the Board Theodore S. Chapin will serve as judges.

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company opened the world premiere of Saint-Ex, a dazzling new musical about the life of author/aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (The Little Prince) last week, but because of flooding from Hurrican Irene, the production has been temporarily shut down. The theatre's website states: 'The Weston Playhouse has sustained damage from 5 feet of water which flooded the ground floor. ? The Theatre Company is formulating plans to reopen its production of Saint-Ex.'

Caitlin Mathes, mezzo-soprano of Dayville, Connecticut, won the $15,000 First Prize in the finals of the 2011 Lotte Lenya Competition, held on April 16, 2011, at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Instead of awarding Second and Third Prizes, judges presented three equal prizes of $8,000 each to Jing Lin, soprano, of Putian, China; Emma Sewell, soprano, of London, England; and Jacob Lewis Smith, bass/baritone, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sebastian Arcelus, Rebecca Luker, Rob McClure, Howard McGillin, Jill Paice and Lauren Worsham led Frank Loesser's Where's Charley?, the final New York City Center Encores! production of the 2010-11. Where's Charley?, based on BranDon Thomas' Charley's Aunt, has a book by George Abbott and music and lyrics by Frank Loesser. The show, which ran March 17 - 20, was directed by John Doyle and choreographed by Alex Sanchez with music direction by Rob Berman.
