Fire Island Dance Festival Announces 20th Anniversary Performances, 7/18-7/20

Fire Island Dance Festival, the most anticipated event of the season on Fire Island, returns July 18-20, 2014, for its stunning 20th anniversary edition, featuring some of the most exciting and talked-about dance companies in the industry. The festival, produced by and benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS, is performed outdoors against the dazzling backdrop of the Great South Bay.

Dearborn St., announces that The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's Matthew Rushing will teach an Advanced Ballet Master Class as part of Ruth Page's 2014 Guest Artist Master Class Series tonight, March 4 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., to be held in Ruth Page's own facilities.

The upcoming performance of Winning Works: Choreographers of Color Award by The Joffrey Academy of Dance has changed venues due to last week's electrical fire at the Harris Theater, an event unrelated to the Winning Works production. The production will now take place at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place, 175 E. Chestnut Street, and the date and time of the performance remain unchanged, which is tonight, March 1 at 7:00 pm. Winning Works ticket holders will be notified by the Joffrey Ballet box office staff about the change of venue.

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra performs a concert at Carnegie Hall that explores the musical traditions of Hungary featuring music by Hungarian composers that incorporated traditional folk tunes into their works. The program includes Kodaly's Hungarian Rondo and Bartok's Divertimento for String Orchestra. Violinist Christian Tetzlaff joins Orpheus for a performance of Joseph Joachim's rarely heard Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor "in the Hungarian Style" on Stern Auditorium's Perelman Stage on Saturday, March 29 at 7 p.m.

On March 15, 2014, American Repertory Ballet will hold its annual Gala performance and reception, Diamond Gala, in downtown New Brunswick, NJ. The performance will begin at 6:00pm at Crossroads Theater, and the reception will begin at 7:00pm across the street at the Heldrich Hotel. The reception, designed by Cassandre Snyder Events and Design, will include a gourmet dinner, dancing to the music of The Kenny i Orchestra, live and silent auctions, and more. Princeton Ballet School students ages 12-18 years can enjoy a Junior Gala party with dinner, dancing and silent auction, also at the Heldrich Hotel.
