New York Philharmonic Principal Cello Carter Brey will perform Bach's Complete Cello Suites at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. and Monday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. This program marks Carter Brey's first time performing Bach's Cello Suites as a complete set. Both concerts are sold out, but names are being taken for a waiting list.

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) next free OSL@DMC event at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music will feature American composer Sean Shepherd previewing his new commission for St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble. Mr. Shepherd will share his thoughts, insights and inspirations, and members of OSL will play excerpts from his new composition. The world premiere of Mr. Shepherd's Quintet will take place at OSL's next chamber series program, entitled Spin Paris, March 3 - 8, 2013. This is his first composition for OSL.

2013 Season to Feature a Range of Groundbreaking, Genre-Bending, and Immersive Commissions and Presentations

The March broadcasts of The New York Philharmonic This Week — the weekly radio series of concerts and recordings by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin — begin with Music Director Alan Gilbert conducting the New York Philharmonic in Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2, featuring Rudolf Buchbinder as soloist, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathétique. The following week, Alan Gilbert leads the Orchestra in Phantasmata by The MarieJosée Kravis Composer-in-Residence Christopher Rouse; Bloch's Schelomo, featuring cellist Jan Vogler; and Brahms's Symphony No. 1.

The New York Philharmonic's 2013-14 season will be marked by an integration of ongoing artistic initiatives that have become hallmarks of Alan Gilbert's tenure as Music Director, alongside the introduction of new ideas that will advance the Orchestra and its role in the cultural life of New York City and the world.

The "Viennese oracle" (The Philadelphia Inquirer) pianist Rudolf Buchbinder will be the featured soloist with the New York Philharmonic led by Music Director Alan Gilbert in three concerts from February 14-16, 2013 at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. Buchbinder will perform Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 83; the concerts will also include Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, Pathetique. Buchbinder's next performances in the U.S. are on March 8-10, 2013, as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra led by Christoph von Dohnanyi, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, K. 466.

Manfred Honeck will make his Philharmonic debut conducting Braunfels's Suite from Fantastic Apparitions on a Theme by Berlioz; Grieg's Piano Concerto, with Jean-Yves Thibaudet as soloist; and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 tonight, January 3, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 4 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 5 at 8:00 p.m.

Anthony Dean Griffey, a tenor internationally renowned for his portray of the title role of Britten's Peter Grimes, and Emalie Savoy, a 2011 George London Award winner who is one of New York's fastest rising young sopranos, perform the second George London Foundation Recital of the season with pianist Ken Noda on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 4:30 PM at The Morgan Library & Museum. The George London Foundation Recital Series presents pairs of outstanding opera singers, many of whom were winners of a George London prize early in their careers or are recent George London Award recipients.

After nearly 40 performances at Carnegie Hall, renowned soprano Renée Fleming curates a four-event Perspectives series, showcasing her multifaceted talents and collaborating with some of her favorite fellow artists beginning on Sunday, January 27 at 8:00 p.m. when she appears in recital in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage with her frequent operatic co-star and close friend mezzo-soprano Susan Graham.

The recording is a live account of Buchbinder's concerts with Concentus Musicus at the Vienna Musikverein in June 2012.
