Unscreened, a playful evening of new, short works for the stage by some of Hollywood's fastest-rising female writers and featuring a multi-star cast, is set for its Los Angeles premiere presented by Black Sheep Entertainment and Firefly: Theater & Films. Performances at the Zephyr Theatre begin Monday, January 31 for a limited engagement through Monday, March 7. Opening is set for Monday, January 31 at 8pm.
Tiffany & Hogget to Helm ONCE on Bway; Creative Team Announced

Smuggler Films partners, John N. Hart & Patrick Milling Smith and film and theatre producers, Fred Zollo and Barbara Broccoli & Michael G Wilson have announced the creative team for upcoming stage adaptation of the 2007 Academy Award-winning film ONCE, coming to Broadway in Fall 2011. The musical will feature the Academy Award-winning music and lyrics of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a book by award-winning Irish playwright & screenwriter, Enda Walsh (Penelope, Hunger, The New Electric Ballroom), direction by the acclaimed Scottish director of Black Watch, John Tiffany, design by five time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (The Coast of Utopia, Mary Poppins). Steven Hoggett (American Idiot, Black Watch) will provide musical staging and Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!) is the music director.
MERCHANT OF VENICE Recoups Initial Investment, Goes on Hiatus 1/9

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced today that the Broadway production of Daniel Sullivan's critically acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE has recouped its capitalization of $3.45 million after only 10 weeks. The critically lauded Public Theater production that began at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park this past summer prior to moving to Broadway was one of the most well reviewed shows of the fall season and was a 'Top Ten Pick' by Ben Brantley of The New York Times who called it 'the most savory slice of Shakespeare served on Broadway in years, thanks in no small part to its magnificent stars: Al Pacino as Shylock and Lily Rabe as Portia.'

MERCHANT OF VENICE to Close in January; Re-Open in February for 3 Weeks

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced a final extension today of Daniel Sullivan's critically acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, starring Al Pacino as Shylock and Lily Rabe as Portia. Due to a film commitment in Mr. Pacino's schedule, THE MERCHANT OF VENICE will go on hiatus following the performance on Sunday, January 9 (when it was originally scheduled to close) and will resume performances on Tuesday, February 1 for an additional three week run through Sunday, February 20 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44th Street). The Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, in collaboration with Ford's Theatre presents "America's Playwright at 100: A Salute to Tennessee Williams" on Monday, January 31, 2011. The one-night only event kicks off the centennial year of one of the nation's most acclaimed writers. Academy Award-winning actor Eli Wallach and other notable American voices will read revealing excerpts of classic plays, rare poems, and family letters, creating a portrait of America as seen through the eyes of Tennessee Williams.
Patrick Stewart to Star in RSC's MERCHANT OF VENICE

According to an article by Baz Bamigboye for UK Daily Mail, stage and screen star Patrick Stewart is set to join the Royal Shakespeare Company production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. Stewart will star as Shylock in the production, which is set to be directed by Rupert Goold. Though an agreement has been made between Stewart and RSC, he has not yet signed the contract. Rehearsals will begin in late March.

Pacino, De Niro, Pesci Sign on for THE IRISHMAN

According to MTV Movie Blog, Al Pacino will join Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci in 'The Irishman', an upcoming film about Frank Sheeran. The film, which revolves around Sheeran's murder of Jimmy Hoffa, is being adapted from Charles Brandt's 'I Heard You Paint Houses' by Steve Zailian. Martin Scorsese is set to direct the film. Production will begin next year.
