The Public Theater announced today that the transformative, heart-soaring musical SOUTHERN COMFORT has been added to the 2015-16 downtown season. Directed by Thomas Caruso and based on the film by Kate Davis, SOUTHERN COMFORT features book and lyrics by Dan Collins and music by Julianne Wick Davis and was conceived for the stage by Robert DuSold and Thomas Caruso. SOUTHERN COMFORT begins previews on Tuesday, February 23 and will run through Sunday, March 27 in The Public's Anspacher Theater, with an official press opening on Monday, March 7.
Stuart Thompson & David Turner Partnering for New Broadway Management Company

After having worked together for over 7 years, Stuart Thompson and David Turner are forming a new general management company, Thompson Turner Productions, which will have King Charles III as its first Broadway credit and will continue to be a general management company for Broadway and touring shows. Thompson will continue to produce under the umbrella of Stuart Thompson Productions.

In conjunction with the New York Musical Theatre Festival, NYMF alum Jeremy Schondfeld (Drift, Greta) will present a concert version of SPUN, A Brother/Sister Rock Musical, at 54 Below tonight, July 10th at 9:30pm. The award winning actor/composer/lyricist/recording artist behind the internationally celebrated concept album, Iron & Coal, will star alongside up-and-coming singer/songwriters Maximilian Sangerman and Brook Wood to present select music from the original musical play (book by Emily Goodson) ahead of its NY premier at the 2015 Adirondack Theatre Festival, July 23-Aug 1.

NNPN Announces Over $125K in Grants for 2015-16

The National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announced its 2015-16 grant recipients, including the Smith Prize for Political Theatre, the 2015 Annual Commission, two Playwright Residencies, five Producer Residencies, and two Collaboration Fund awards that will support partnership between eight of its members on two productions. In all, NNPN committed over $125,000 to fourteen Core Member Theaters and nine Affiliated Artists.
