New York Magazine has announced that after an extensive open casting process, Diego González Boneta has been selected as Drew for the ROCK OF AGES film. The part was originated on Broadway by American Idol alum Constantine Maroulis. Earlier today, reports circluated that Katy Perry may also join the flick as a stripper, alongside Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige and, reportedly, her husband Russell Brand. Variety has confirmed the news.

In celebration of the reopening of Rock of Ages at the Helen Hayes Theatre, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister was honored with a certificate naming him the show's worldwide ambassador during a celebration held at Bowlmor Lanes Times Square this past Friday. Snider, whose music is featured in the hit Broadway show (‘I Wanna Rock' and ‘We're Not Gonna Take It'), recently played the character of 'Dennis' for an 11 week run before the show went dark last fall in anticipation of its move to the Helen Hayes Theatre.

After a breif hiatus, ROCK OF AGES re-opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway last night, March 24. The five-time Tony Award nominated musical played its final performance at The Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The production moved houses to make way for RAIN, which had to vacate it's home at the Neil Simon Theatre to accommodate Catch Me If You Can. ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. The New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), was originally scheduled to be released in 2011. As previously reported, a new release date has now been set for the film: June 1, 2012.

'30 Rock' star Alec Baldwin has joined the cast of 'Rock of Ages,' New Line's adaptation of the Broadway musical, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film's director Adam Shankman announced Baldwin's participation via Twitter on Friday, saying: ' Based on info I got today, I'm gonna confirm Alec Baldwin as Dennis in 'Rock Of Ages.' Hollah.'

Variety reports that Julianne Hough has agreed to play Sherrie in the film version of ROCK OF AGES. Julianne Hough made her feature film debut in 'Burlesque' in November, opposite Christina Aguilera and Cher, which also coincided with the release of the two-time 'Dancing With the Stars' champion's second country album.

Whatsonstage.com has revealed that ROCK OF AGES will play the West End's Shaftesbury Theatre in August. Performances begin August 31, with an opening date to be announced.
