New Canon Chamber Collective. a multicultural collective of South Florida's most outstanding musicians, opens its inaugural season with American Soul in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m.

The Walter W. Naumburg Foundation's 2021 International Vocal Competition concluded on Thursday, May 27, naming Erin Wagner, a mezzo-soprano from El Paso, Texas, the winner.  Ms. Wagner's prize includes a cash award of $25,000, two New York concerts, and a commissioned work. 

The Coronavirus emergency left the landscape for the arts gloomy, but  Guerilla Opera's thirteenth season had successes which propelled the company into a new era of female leadership and artistry. Guerilla Opera's composers are equally winning. With seven works in development, many smaller projects, and new digital programming, the company's fans and supporters have a lot to look forward to in future seasons.

The newest opera from creator and librettist Cerise Jacobs and her activist opera company, White Snake Projects, is titled Cosmic Cowboy: a work of poli sci-fi that blends ancient history and fantasy to talk about the subject of colonization.

The National Music & Global Culture Society is proud to present 'Music of Two Worlds', a concert at the renowned Merkin Hall Kaufman Music Center (129 W 67th St, New York, NY 10036), on June 26, at 7:00pm. Singers participating in the 2019 Grand Rapids Bach Festival's inaugural Linn Maxwell Keller Distinguished Bach Musician Award were promised a $10,000 cash prize meant to encourage and promote their careers as professional singers.

One of the nation's most adventurous opera companies, Odyssey Opera, continues its sixth season with the Boston premiere of the rarely performed 1858 opera Le medecin malgre lui (The Doctor in Spite of Himself). On the occasion of the bicentenary of Charles Gounod's birth (1818-1893), Odyssey Opera offers a chance to become better acquainted with one of the largest French composers of the second half of the 19th Century. Based on a play by the great French satirical playwright Moliere, Gounod's Le medecin malgre lui is a three-act comic opera set to a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carre. Odyssey Opera will feature baritone Stephen Salters (Sganarelle), mezzo-soprano Tascha Anderson (Jacqueline), the Boston debut of tenor Piotr Buszewski (Leandre), and a full orchestra and chorus conducted by Gil Rose, with stage direction by Daniel Pelzig (Santa Fe Opera, Met Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago). The fully-staged production will be sung in French with English subtitles, with never heard recitatives added by Erik Satie.

Trinity Church Wall Street's annual series of concerts in January has long been a highlight of the musical season. Entitled 'Time's Arrow' to allude to Trinity's signature juxtaposition of early and modern music, the 2017 festival (Jan 1-12) celebrates the 250th anniversary of the opening of St. Paul's Chapel, the oldest church building in Manhattan.

Odyssey Opera, a Boston-­??based opera company dedicated to exploring the full spectrum of adventurous repertoire, today announced THE BRITISH INVASION, a month-­??long opera festival of fully-­??staged productions of works by English composers. From May 17-­??June 20, Boston opera lovers will have the unique opportunity to choose from four evening-­??length programs encompassing nine diverse operatic works, including the Boston premiere of Vaughan Williams's Sir John in Love, a double bill of Walton's The Bear and Sullivan's The Zoo, five compelling monodramas, and Ade?s's masterpiece of modern cultural commentary, Powder Her Face. Seattle Theatre Group, (STG) will present FORTUNE'S BONES: THE MANUMISSION REQUIEM, at The Paramount Theatre, Sunday, February 22, 2015, 4 PM, as a FREE public event. The requiem is a musical setting composed by Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, formerly of Sweet Honey in the Rock, of the book-length poem of the same name, written by Dr. Marilyn Nelson. The cantata is performed in Seattle by over 100 local voices, a 40+-piece orchestra of local musicians, an African drum ensemble, and featured soloists.

Portland Ovations, in collaboration with the USM School of Music and American Opera Projects, Brooklyn, NY, presents the world premiere of The Summer King, an Opera on the Life of Josh Gibson, at Merrill Auditorium on Thursday, May 8th at 7:30 pm. The Summer King, composed by Portland resident Daniel Sonenberg, features a talented cast known for their performances around the world. The May 8th concert, an Ovations commission, is The Summer King's world premiere.
