Robert R. Oliver, who starred as Mortimer in the off-Broadway revival of The Fantasticks, died suddenly Monday, February 4 of a heart-attack, report press sources. He was 68 years old.
The Off-Broadway musical revival of The Fantasticks will play its final performance on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 7PM at the Snapple Theatre Center's Jerry Orbach Theater (210 West 50th). Written by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, The Fantasticks will have played 27 preview and 628 regular performances.
The new Off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks celebrated 500th performance on Saturday, November 3, 2007. The beloved, musical love story plays at the Snapple Theater Center in the newly dedicated Jerry Orbach Theater.
The Fantasticks will welcome Doug Ullman, Jr. to the role of 'Matt' on Tuesday, October 29 and Whitney Bashor to the role of 'Luisa' on Monday, November 5. Both have appeared in the new production previously. Having recently completed a run in the American Musical Theater of San Jose's production of Guys and Dolls, Burke Moses will return to the role of 'El Gallo' on Tuesday, October 29.
Ivan Hernandez will assume the role of 'El Gallo' in the new production of The Fantasticks Monday, September 17.
The Fantasticks recently celebrated its one-year anniversary at the Snapple Theatre Center's Jerry Orbach Theater with a champagne toast and festivities.
The Fantasticks will welcome Nick Spangler to the role of 'Matt,' Jordan Nichols to the role of 'The Mute' and Julie Craig to the role of 'Luisa' on Monday, July 30th at the Snapple Theater Center
