Choreographer Miro Magloire to Open New Chamber Ballet's 2023-24 Season This Month

Magloire's New Chamber Ballet Heads to City Center Studio 5


Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet celebrates its 15th anniversary with two world premieres to music by Schubert and Dvorak, and solos for departing dancers Elizabeth Brown and Sarah Atkins, November 22 at 8 PM and November 23 at 7:30 PM at City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56th Street.  As always, all music is played live by the Company's superb musicians, pianist Melody Fader and violinist Doori Na.

Loretta Thomas' Moving Visions Presents EVERYMAN'S REROOF


Loretta Thomas' Moving Visions will join forces with the Ensemble 212 Chamber Orchestra, Yoon Jae Lee, conductor, for Everyman's Reroof, a concert rich in live music and dances by Thomas and Catherine Gallant, as well as historical dances by Isadora Duncan, all accompanied live by the Chamber Orchestra playing Vivaldi, Stephen Barber, Schubert, and more. Guest pianist is Nathaniel Lanasa. Performances are April 4, 5, 6 at 8 PM at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, entrance on 25th Street between Lexington & Third Avenues.

Magloire's New Chamber Ballet Comes To City Center Studio 5


Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet continues its series with the world premiere of  Sanctum, set to music by two major composers, Kaija Saariaho and Karin Rehnqvist, with guest singers Charlotte Mundy, Mary Mackenzie, and Elisa Sutherland of Ekmeles joining the resident Magloire ensemble of dancers and musicians.   Also on the program is Magloire's Morning Song, a solo to music by John Cage.   

Lydia Johnson Dance to Present New Program


Choreographer Lydia Johnson will present her Lydia Johnson Dance in a program of new and repertory works to music by contemporary masters Henryk Gorecki and Philip Glass, as well as the trio sonatas of Handel.  The season's premiere will be a group work for the Company's eight resident dancers joined by four apprentices, and set to music by one of the choreographer's favorite composers, Henryk Gorecki.

Magloire's New Chamber Ballet Premieres at City Center Studio This Month


For the opening performances of their 2017-18 season, choreographer Miro Magloire will present his New Chamber Ballet in the world premiere of a work to J.S. Bach's prelude and fugue in F sharp Minor, September 22 & 23, 8 PM, in City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56 Street.   The new work was commissioned by Richard and Leslie Curtis.   Known for his daring choices and extensive background in music, Magloire will also present his ensemble in repertory works by Mozart, Berio, Beat Furrer, and Magloire himself.

Lydia Johnson Dance will premiere two new works: one to music by Philip Glass and Marc Mellits, and the second to Trio Sonatas of Handel, joined by company works to one of the choreographer's favorites composers, Osvaldo Golijov.   Joining the 13-member ensemble are guests Mary Beth Hansohn and Peter Chursin, recently seen on the Twyla Tharp Dance 50th Anniversary Tour.  Company Ballet Mistress is Deborah Wingert, former New York City Ballet dancer and one of a select few chosen by The Balanchine Trust to set his works on other companies.   Performances Today, Thursday & Friday, June 21, 22 & 23 at 7:30 PM at New York Live Arts, 219 West 19th Street.

Baruch Performing Arts Center (BPAC) will host award-winning choreographer Gabrielle Lamb'sPigeonwing Dance in the premiere of an ensemble work that includes a new solo created for guest artist PeiJu Chien-Pott, a principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company. The program also includes Lamb's Tessellations (2016), performed by the Joffrey Ensemble. The one-night-only performance, presented in association with the CUNY Dance Initiative, will take place on Today, November 18, at 7pm, at Mason Hall at the Baruch Performing Arts Center.
