The New York Times has reported that James V. Hatch, a historian of black theater passed away on Feb 14. Hatch, with his wife Camille Billops, created a large archive of interviews with black actors, singers, writers and artists.

One of the oldest community theatres in the area is the Virginia Samford Theatre. When I was a child and first discovering my love of theatre, James Hatcher was the director of what had been called The Little Theatre and eventually became Town and Gown Theatre. Transformed time and time again, but always housed in the same building, VST has maintained the standard of excellence set by "Hatch" all of those years ago.

Theatre LJCC is giving opportunities to young actors and giving a new generation a chance to learn the appreciation of theatre on their own terms. It is a great idea.
