BWW Review: BLOOD WEDDING is Eerily Staged, but Lacks Emotion

The world premiere translation of the classic Spanish drama, BLOOD WEDDING is now playing at Soulpepper. Directed by Erin Brandenburg, the drama follows a young couple's troubled engagement as their love brings to life buried passions that threaten their relationship. Newly translated by Guillermo Verdecchia, the play is reimagined to take place in rural Ontario while still maintaining the classic tones of the original play.

HER2 & New Groundswell Festival Set for Nightwood Theatre's 2014-15 Season

The Segal Centre for Performing Arts will present the world premiere of Peter Hinton's adaptation of The Seagull, starring Lucy Peacock and Diane D'Aquila. This comic and bittersweet re-imagining of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece plays in the Segal Theatre for a limited engagement from February 2nd to 16th, 2014. The Seagull is presented with the generous support of Delmar.
Patrick Page, Diane D'Aquila Receive STC's Emery Battis Acting Awards

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) congratulates this year's recipients of the Emery Battis Acting Award, Patrick Page and Diane D'Aquila. Since 2010, STC has recognized two actors per season who have demonstrated exceptional skill and technique on the stage. Page and D'Aquila were praised for their incredible performances as the title role in Coriolanus and dual appearances as Volumnia in Coriolanus and the Countess in Wallenstein, respectively. The award was presented December 3, 2013 at the opening night dinner for STC's current mainstage production, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, hosted by the Board of Trustees.

Expanded to thirty categories this year, the BCAs (or "Broadies") honor Chicago's theater productions and artists in both Equity and Non-Equity categories, including plays, musicals, revues, Theater for Young Audiences, touring shows and special theatrical events. Productions which opened between November 1, 2011 and October 31, 2012 were eligible for nomination. The BroadwayWorld Chicago Awards are the oldest and most popular of the several dozen regional BroadwayWorld Award competitions now being held in the U.S. And you can join the fun by voting for your favorites, and encouraging your friends to vote as the vote totals pile up!
2012 Equity Jeff Award Nominations Announced

The Jeff Awards Committee announced 197 nominations in 34 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions, which opened between August 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. The Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 118 Equity productions offered by 55 producing organizations. From these openings, 96 productions were 'Jeff Recommended,' which made them eligible for award nominations.
