Jason Alexander directs L.A. premiere of Steven Levenson’s funny, powerful ‘If I Forget’ at Fountain Theatre

The Fountain Theatre presents a deeply personal play about history, responsibility, and what we're willing to sacrifice for a new beginning. Tony Award-winning actor Jason Alexander, widely known from TV's Seinfeld, directs the Los Angeles premiere of If I Forget by Steven Levenson, running July 23 through September 10 on the Fountain's indoor stage. Previews begin July 20.

One thing's for sure - country musicals are an awful lot of fun. There aren't very many of them and, if you can name one at all, it's most likely THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS or THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM. But there is another rarely produced gem that is just as enjoyable - PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES - the fun-loving retro revue written by its original cast (John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel, and Jim Wann).

Unbound Productions announces the lineup for the company's second annual new play development reading series, First Stab. The series features two afternoons of free script-in-hand play readings at the Donald R. Wright Auditorium inside the Pasadena Central Library: 285 E Walnut St, Pasadena, CA 91101. Reservations are encouraged, past readings have sold out.

Another video from the Stages Musical Theatre Festival was just released this week. New Musicals Inc. aired 51 hours of live streamcast footage of musical theatre readings, concerts, creative sessions, as well as interviews with writers and producers, all part of the most recent Stages Musical Theatre Festival. The Festival ran for fifteen years in Chicago before New Musicals Inc. brought it to the West Coast about a decade ago.

Previously offered at a discount to subscribers alone, the tickets will be open for purchase through the box office or the theatre's website, regularly priced at $38 for adults and $15 for students. General adult admission to the preview performances December 1 and 2 will be $25 and $27 respectively.

Those nostalgic for Three Stooges slapstick or old-time vaudeville will thoroughly enjoy playwright Mark Brown's AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS. The very committed cast of five enact 30+ different characters, sometimes within the same scene. Members of the 'Pro99' movement of Actors' Equity Association have issued an open letter to AEA's newly elected president, Kate Shindle, in response to her victory and to her inaugural address as president of the national union for actors and stage managers. The open letter is signed by over 400 Equity members (listed below), including such notable names as Ed Asner, Francis Fisher, Sally Kirkland and Alfred Molina. The 'Pro99' movement formed in late 2014 in opposition to AEA's rollout of a new plan that will effectively force 'intimate theaters' in Los Angeles to pay Equity actors minimum wage, go 'non-union' or even close - despite an overwhelming vote against the plan by 66% of the Los Angeles membership on an advisory referendum. 'Pro99' members around the nation, who take their name from the current AEA '99 Seat Plan' that allows members to volunteer in smaller venues, oppose AEA's new promulgated plan. They are requesting that Equity leadership put a moratorium on the plan until local members' voices can be heard, and that the union work with its members to develop an alternative plan that will more realistically address the needs of the Los Angeles theater community.

Theatre Now New York presented the 2nd Annual Sound Bites 10 Minute Musical Theatre Festival on December 8th 2014 at the 47th Street Theatre. An after-party, sponsored by Music Theatre International, was held after at Hurley's Saloon where awards were given and merriment was had.

Everyone should have the opportunity to express themselves artistically. Theatre, music, dance, poetry - all forms of art stimulate growth and nurture our intuitive connection to the world around us. CRE Outreach (which stands for Create, Reflect, Empower) uses theatre as a means of artistic exploration for the visually impaired, military veterans, and at-risk youth. It also educates the public about the value of their contributions within the greater artistic community. Both are worthy endeavors.
