Walmartopia, the musical with a mission, written by Catherine Capellaro (Book) and Andrew Rohn (Music and Lyrics), opened Labor Day, September 3 at 7PM at The Minetta Lane Theatre (18 Minetta Lane). The opening night reception was held at the B-Bar and Grill (40 East 4th Street at Bowery). BroadwayWorld brings you this Opening Night video featuring the cast and creative. Directed by Daniel Goldstein and with choreography by Wendy Seyb and music direction by August Eriksmoen, the cast features Cheryl Freeman and Nikki M. James as mother and daughter (and Wal-Mart employees) at the center of this lampoon of the corporate giant. The cast also features Sarah Bolt, Bradley Dean, Stephen DeRosa, John Jellison, Brennen Leath, Andrew Polk, Pearl Sun, Scotty Watson, and Heléne Yorke. Mr. Watson, by the way, plays the head of the late Wal-Mart founder, Sam Walton.

"Walmartopia tells the hilarious and timely tale of Vicki Latrell, a single mom and Wal-Mart employee who speaks out against her company's working conditions and finds herself and her young daughter jettisoned to 2036, into a future where Wal-Mart dominates the entire world," describe press notes.

Walmartopia plays the following performance schedule: Tuesdays through Saturdays 8PM, Sundays 7PM, with matinees on Saturdays & Sundays at 3PM. Tickets are priced at $65 & $45, and may be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 212-307-4100. www.walmartopia.com.
