Right now at the NYU Skirball Center, a new Cirque-style acrobatics show is waiting to make your holiday week special. The choreographer of the 2006 Olympic Games closing ceremonies has joined forces with Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity choreographer to create a new circus spectacle "that lives between dream and reality, underscored by a continuous stream of original music, and brought to vivid life by 3-D projections". CIRKOPOLIS, the new show by Montréal-based Circus Arts company Cirque Éloize, is a mind-blowing spectacle for kids of all ages. I was lucky enough to bring my ten and five year olds, and both had a memorable theatrical experience not easily replicated!

The production is described as "a show that combines the worlds of circus, dance and theatre. In the heart of a stern and imposing city in appearance, giant gears and dark portals symbolize a mechanism that crushes individuality". I know....a bit deep for family theatre. But don't worry. It's really just a very cool thing to watch and you can take from it what you will. For example, I was sent screaming to the gym after watching this troupe of finely tuned gymnasts rip up the stage with delicate nonchalance for ninety minutes. My kids were blown away and I was thrilled to find something that is great for the whole family.
