  3. The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra: Dresden

The Norwegian Baroque Orchestra is Norway’s leading early music orchestra, and consists of the best baroque specialists from across the country. The ensemble is led by German-Norwegian cellist Kristin von der Goltz, and has performed a fixed concert series in the Second House for a number of years. The orchestra’s new concert series, Vagabondia, examines how throughout the 1600s and 1700s, large European cities continuously developed new musical styles, and fought for access to the best musicians, composers and vocalists from across Europe.
DRESDEN

Dresden was a musical centre and birthplace of the newly-created music of the 1600s and 1700s – in addition to perhaps being Europe’s most beautiful city. The foremost composers and musicians of the age gathered at the court chapel of Fredrik August I, and the musical environment was subject to continual development. Composers such as Antonio Vivaldi visited Dresden and supplied compositions on commission. In this concert, the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra will perform some of the greatest orchestral music to come out of Dresden, with works by composers including Zelenka, Heinichen and Vivaldi.
