Trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær enjoys tremendous recognition at home and abroad. Finally he at the Opera with its modern, Nordic tones like painting landscapes in quiet sunrise and violent storm. This evening you will meet him interacting with a band of the highest class: Geir Sundstøl (guitars), Jo Berger Myhre (bass) and Erland Dahlen (drums). Any player on his latest release, SWITCH.
Molvær has a long career behind him. In 1982 he became a member of the band Masqualero, a star with Tore Brunborg, Jon Balke, Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen. The band released four albums and won three Grammy Awards. In 1997 debuted Molvær as a solo artist with the album Khmer in the German quality label ECM. The plate was among the first successful experiments with combining jazz with samplers and lydbehandlere, breakbeats, ambient and house. With sales of over 200,000 copies were Molvær coveted throughout Europe. Later he followed up with a series of plates in the same spirit.
His musical influences are artists such as Don Cherry, Miles Davis, Brian Eno, Billie Holiday, Bill Laswell and Joni Mitchell.
