Virginia Repertory Theatre (located in Richmond, VA) announces the opening of THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES at Hanover Tavern on September 14 and running through November 4. Adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel by Stephen Canny and John Nicholson and directed by Gary C. Hopper, this hysterical farce features three actors playing over twenty roles from Doyle's most famous Sherlock Holmes story. This classic thriller kicks off the Barksdale Season with howling laughter.

Director Gary C. Hopper is currently retired as the Associate Professor of Theatre and Assistant Chair and Director of the Undergraduate Studies for the Theatre Department at VCU's School of the Arts where he taught for thirty-seven years. Gary has staged over sixty productions including Of Mice and Men and Prelude to a Kiss for Virginia Rep, Lloyd's Prayer and Principia Scriptoria for the Production Company, and God of Carnage for the Company of Fools.

Matthew Mitchell is no stranger to the Hanover stage. He was recently nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Play by the Richmond Theater Critics Circle (RTCC) for his role as Roy in Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music, which closed in August at Hanover Tavern. Matthew also received a RTCC nomination as Best Actor in Henley Street's The Liar, and Best Supporting Actor for Cadence Theatre's Kimberly Akimbo in partnership with Virginia Rep.

Returning to the Hanover stage is David Clark, who first appeared in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 28 years ago. More recent credits include: Greater Tuna at Hanover Tavern, True West, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, and The Liar all with Henley Street Theatre. Virginia Rep welcomes to the stage for the first time, Adam Turck, who received a B.A. in Drama from Ithaca College and spent three months at the Moscow Art Theater.
