Firehouse is excited to continue its partnership with UR Downtown for another installment of its Lunchtime Theatre series. UR Downtown is an innovative resource for engaging and educating that enables all academic departments, offices, and programs of the University of Richmond to connect with the Greater Richmond community. The next Firehouse Lunchtime performance will take place on Friday, February 10 at 12pm in the Wilton Companies Gallery at UR Downtown, located at 626 E. Broad Street. There is a $5 suggested cash donation at the door.

The idea behind Firehouse's Lunchtime Theatre series is to offer people the opportunity to take a brief vacation from their daily lives by infusing it with some live performance. Audience members are encouraged to bring their lunch or buy it at Richmond on Broad Cafe (connected to the Wilton Companies Gallery), and immerse yourself in a new play for forty minutes.

The February Lunchtime Theatre show features a new one-act play by local playwright Edward Keating titled THE LAST WORD. A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment but wins an audience for one last appeal. His crime? Talking. He argues his case before the highest judge. The reading is directed by Firehouse Producing Artistic Director Joel Bassin and features Bill Blair, Toney Q. Cobb, and Dean Knight. THE LAST WORD is forty minutes long and will be performed as a staged reading so Keating can develop the script for a future full production. Audience feedback after the performance is encouraged.

THE LAST WORD is being performed in conjunction with UR Downtown's exhibit RICHMOND JUSTICE (2/3-3/17/17). This special exhibition, featuring a year-long project produced by Hannah Ayers and Lance Warren, considers the criminal justice landscape in our city.
