5th Wall Theatre has announced their 2017-2018 Season, and it's a season that promises to hold both creative diversity and meaningful collaboration with theatre companies across Virginia. When asked about the upcoming season, 5th Wall's artistic director Carol Piersol emphasized the theatre company's focus on bringing important, thought-provoking narratives to the Richmond stage while also strengthening the creative relationships 5th Wall has built with other theatres outside city limits. "The Richmond theatre community holds a wealth of talent," says Piersol, "and we are delighted to be collaborating this year with two of the city's finest companies, Richmond Triangle Players and Theatre Lab, as well as with Club Infuzion and our neighbor in Hampton, Hampton Arts."

This season's line-up includes "Murder Ballad" by Julia Jordan and Juliana Nash, a dramatic musical about a love triangle gone wrong that was hailed as the Off-Broadway "must-see theatre experience of 2013." This razor-sharp show reveals the complicated life of Sara, an uptown girl whose downtown past refuses to stay in the past where it belongs. Following that show will be a production of "Pump Boys and Dinettes" produced in partnership with Hampton Arts, a musical with a country twang that'll get toes tapping and guitars strumming. Next up is "I Am My Own Wife" by Doug Wright, a co-production with Richmond Triangle Players that explores the life a transgender woman named Charlotte von Mahlsdorf who grew up in WWII-era Germany and would go on to found the Gründerzeit Museum (or "Museum of Everyday Objects" that were saved from the bombed out homes of Jewish families and others escaping East Germany). This play won a stunning number of awards for its Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, not the least of which included two Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2004. The final show of 5th Wall's Season is a co-production with TheatreLAB called "Hand to God" by Robert Askins, an award-winning and Tony-nominated comedic play about a fundamentalist Christian congregation's puppet club and one puppet in particular, Tyrone, who wreaks more unholy havoc on a quiet Texas town than anyone could have imagined.
