CORTLAND REPERTORY THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR 42nd SUMMER SEASON

Cortland Repertory Theatre will hold local auditions for its upcoming 42nd annual summer season in 2013. Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 26 from 10:00 - 5:00 at Homer Junior High School, 53 Clinton Avenue in Homer, NY. Productions include:

  • “The Unexpected Guest”: an Agatha Christie mystery;
  • “Buddy! The Buddy Holly Musical” a rock and roll 1950’s musical;
  • “The Full Monty”, a contemporary musical;
  • “The 1940’s Radio Hour” a play with music featuring music from the 30’s and 40’s;
  • “Shipwrecked: An Entertainment”, a comedy/drama;
  • “I’ll Be Back Before Midnight”, a comedy/thriller.

These will be the only local auditions CRT will hold this year. All roles open. Paid internships available for college students. If cast, actors must also be available for daytime and some evening rehearsals. Season dates run from May 21 - Sept 7. Rehearsal and performance dates vary depending on show.

Merry Go Round Playhouse will also hold auditions this weekend, at 6877 East Lake Road (Rte. 38A) in Auburn on January 26 & 27. Please visit
merry-go-round.com for more details.

  • Seeking non-union actors only.
  • Please bring a current photo and theatrical resume.
  • Prepare one 1 - 2 minute monologue to be considered for the plays. British accent required for “The Unexpected Guest.
  • Prepare 16 measures of an uptempo and/or ballad to be considered for the musicals. Be prepared to sing more, if asked.
  • Bring your own sheet music. Pianist will be provided.
  • Auditionees may be asked to read from provided scripts, and may be asked to learn a short dance/movement routine.

Seeking adults (ages 18 and up) for all shows. Also seeking actor/singers who are also skilled musicians for “Buddy” and “1940’s Radio Hour”; brass and reed instruments, guitar/bass, percussion, piano, etc. will as be considered. Musicians must be at an advanced level and must be able to play a solo if necessary. Please be prepared to play at callbacks, which will be held the same day at the auditions.

We are seeking ONE LOCAL BOY (must live or have housing in Central New York) - age 11 - 14 - who acts, for “The Full Monty”. He does not need to be able to sing. Parents should be aware that “The Full Monty” contains adult language and is about a group of steel-workers who put on their own strip show. The boy will play the son of one of the steel workers. The young actor may hear adult language in the show, but will not be required to actually speak any adult language. For the audition, we ask that the young gentlemen have a brief monologue memorized (we'll be looking for comfort in front of people/on stage, volume, and the ability to memorize lines). We may ask him to read from the script as well.

This is the only role for youth under 18 years of age that we have available in this year's season.

See the CRT website at
www.cortlandrep.org for maps to the audition location, detailed character descriptions and more information on CRT’s other auditions in New York City.
