Circa Theatre is pleased to present a one-off rehearsed reading of David Hare's remarkable piece on the financial crisis, The Power of Yes.

"This isn't a play. It's a story. It doesn't pretend to be a play. It pretends only to be a story. And what a story! How capitalism came to a grinding halt. Where were you on
September 15th 2008? Do you remember? Did you even notice? Capitalism failed to function for about four days. This summer I set out to find what had happened."

So starts David Hare's extraordinary piece, which opened at The National Theatre in London in October 2009. Using interviews with many of the key players from the financial world, he produced a compelling narrative letting the actors play the parts of the men and women
involved.

Given its size and scope, a full production of The Power of Yes would be beyond the resources of the theatre but Circa felt that such an important and entertaining piece should have an airing in the Capital. Involved is a top-class cast of some of Wellington's finest actors,
including Gavin Rutherford, Paul McLaughlin, Jeffrey Thomas, Laura Hill and Ray Henwood, who will lead a discussion with the audience about Hare's play after the reading.

The rehearsed reading will take place on Monday, 2 May, at 7 pm. The ticket price is $25.

"It's like a ship which you're being told is in apple-pie order, the decks are cleaned, the metal is burnished, the only thing nobody mentions, it's being driven at full speed towards an iceberg."

"Running a hedge fund is bad for your ego. And when it gets good for your ego, that's when you fall flat on your face."
