BWW Interviews: MARY POPPINS' Karen Murphy
What is your favorite song or moment in the show, and why?
Actually it's the kite ballet. It's in act two after Miss Andrew has been introduced. There's a scene in the park and four young couples come out and with kites dance. It's absolutely exquisite. I love watching it from the wings each night. There's no lyrics, but its very special I watch it every night. The choreography is beautiful and fantastic. It's very special. So much going on with dancing on Broadway right now is so athletic and seeming routed in gymnastics. This is classically routed in ballet and tap, and I'm crazy about it. It's one of our real strengths.
Can you spell ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'?
I'm still learning. I'll just leave it at that I can get about halfway through it. I'm one of the few associated [with the show] who remembers seeing the movie in the theater. I saw it in the move theater. I remember getting off of the bus and someone saying to me "I know a new word! It's ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'!" She was one of first ones to have seen the movie. It's been in my world for a long time. I'm delighted to see families, particular young families, come to the theatre, and I know that in a very real way their life is changed. They will go to the theatre again and again and that's a responsibility I love having.
