Union County Performing Arts Center will host internationally known guitarist/composer Peter Griggs in a concert, "500 Years of Music for Guitar," in the Fazioli Room at the Hamilton Stage for the Performing Arts on Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.

Griggs will perform music for the classical guitar from the Renaissance to the contemporary, including works by Gaspar Sanz, J. S. Bach, Ferdinando Carulli, Django Rheinhardt and Thelonious Monk, as well as Flamenco, Brazilian music, jazz, blues and several of Griggs' own compositions. He discusses the evolution of the guitar from its ancient origins to its current worldwide popularity, as well as his experiences traveling throughout Europe for more than 10 years as a 21st century troubadour. There is something for listeners of all tastes on this wide-ranging program.

Peter Griggs has presented more than 500 solo guitar concerts throughout the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Low Countries, Scandinavia and eastern Europe at concert halls, art centers, festivals, museums, churches, universities, cafes, clubs and other venues. He has recorded on Folkways Records, Music Of The World, Treecastle Music and E360. Reviews of his performances include, "Sizzling guitar playing," from the Dundee, Scotland Courier and "an almost unbelievable talent -- Peter Griggs performs magic!" from Germany's Bergische Morning Post.
